I was installing an extra outlet in water heater closet to run circulating pump. When I connected ground wire to existing outlet (having already connected the new outlet) the breaker tripped. Is there a special outlet plug required for the Arc Fault Breaker Type BRAF EIN Cutler Hammer?

If the ground fault breaker tripped, I would try troubleshooting the other connections on the new outlet. To my knowledge, there are no special outlets required. Try redoing the other connections. The breaker is sensing a small amount of current from the hot wire(s) to the ground wire.
