I was prompted to update an add-on for Mozilla Firefox 3.6. I think it was called Midnight Fox which I proceeded to do. After it was downloaded Mozilla became un-useable in that the menu bar was non-existant. I would like to restore Mozilla back to its previous format without losing all my bookmarks etc. I have downloaded a new version of Firefox 3.6 but this does not seem to help. The problem appears to be that I downloaded the add-on and it has corrupted Firefox so that I can not use it. What do you recommend?
Install Opera, import your bookmarks, backup your passwords (signons.txt, signons2.txt, key3.db files) and uninstall Firefox. Run a registry cleaner, manually erase all remaining Mozilla/Firefox folders and reboot your pc. If you don't like Opera just export its bookmarks as a html file and uninstall it and install Firefox again and import the bookmarks and paste back the password files.
Yes, uninstall it from Add/Remove. The profile will still be there but the problem with that is that all your problems will be transfered to the new install. This is why you MUST wipe it and start fresh.
The easiest and safest is CCleaner , closely followed by Advanced System Care. I use both on a daily basis. I proposed you to use Opera because i know it will work in almost all cases of Firefox corrupted files. You can try it with both if you want to experiment but i can't guarantee it will work later.Yes, uninstall it from Add/Remove. If you did not delete your old profile you might be able to recover it. Follow the instructions on the below walkthrough on how to retrieve your profile. There is also a video that you can watch for a visual on how to do it.
I hope this helps and I hope your profile is still there for you to be able to import.
