That is not good at all! The safety lockout switch on the door is supposed to stop the microwave from doing this. This is rather dangerous and you can cause permanent eye damage with just a few seconds exposure.
Do not use this microwave again until you get it fixed by a repair shop. It may be cheaper to buy a new one than repair this.

The doors open and you go to look and thats it. Attended a demonstration once where they used the microwave to pop balloons at about 300 feet distance (100 meters). In your house you are much closer and the energy is much higher than that.
