This should show up easily on the ECU diagnostics computer at a mercedes dealership. Basically your fuel mixture is way too rich causing your car to be heavy on gas, have a raw gasoline smell, and not run right. Something like this can be caused by a defective oxygen sensor (but that usually produces a check engine light) or it might even be a defective ECU. There is really not way of knowing for sure until you do a proper diagnostics where they hook up your exhaust at the same time and do an emmission test. In most cases it's some sensor that needs replacing.
You need to do a proper computer diagnostic. If you're up to it, you can buy or borrow an ECU analyzer, not sure if your car uses OBD/OBD2 or CAN but most of these generic analyzers can communicate in both protocols - but make sure you find out which protocol your vehicle uses. Hook up the analyzer and get the error codes - that will at least give you a rough idea which system in the car needs attention, but in most cases won't tell you the cause of the problem. Having the error code is the best place to start. Just so you know "water in the gas" or "bad gas" are two of the most common and lame explanations given by people who know absolutely nothing about cars or they just want to take the money for diagnostics without having to do any work on your car.
