If i shoot some gas down the carb the car will start but shortly after die. I removed a feul line leading to the carb, put the end in a glass jar and went to turn it over to see if feul was being delivered. no fuel was present in the jar but the smell of gasoline vapoures were. can anybody help me pinpoint this problem?
there are 2 hoses connecting into it.. the one from the tank the other to the engine..
Remove hose from engine and insert into bottle or jar, turn on ignition and gas should flow ,, if not (like u said above) try the hose from the tank to the filter,, If gas flows then chage your filter if not reassemble and head into your car.
Remove the back seat.. (buttom piece,, unclip it)
remove gas tank protector
remove fuel pump from tank
turn on ignition ,, if pump turns on then there is a restriction in the line that leads from the tank to the filter (more thank likely rust particles in the tank, remove tank, flush it, to remove all the rust,, and change or clean line that runs from tank to filter.. also clean the net filter in the tank.
If your here thats cause the pump did come on.
Run a wire from the positive battery terminal to the positive pole of the pump,, and the negative ground on car body,, if pump works thhen check the fuse and pump wiring,, especially the relay, alarm , emobilizer and switch.. The fuel pump relay (if fuel injected) is attached to the brain box)
If pump didnt come on replace pump..

You have definite problem with the fuel pump but im not sure what type of vehicle you have. josh service tech.
No fuel coming out of the line indicates that your fuel pump is "dead" and needs to be replaced.
