WHEN YOU CHANGE A TIMING BELT THE TIMING MARKS ON THE CAMSHAFT AND CRANKSHAFT NEED TO BE SET UP PROPERLY - IF THEY ARE NOT SETUP PROPERLY THE ENGINE WILL NOT RUN AND THE VALVES MAY TOUCH THE TOP OF THE PISTONS AND LOCK UP THE ENGINE. YOU MAY EVEN BEND THE VALVES. REFER TO A WORKSHOP MANUAL FOR THE TIMING PROCEDURE. NB: IF THE TIMING BELT IS NOT CHANGED AT THE RECOMMENDED TIME INTERVAL AND THE BELT BREAKS THIS CAN ALSO BEND THE VALVES - CAN BE A VERY EXPENSIVE FIX.
