Turn your notebook off. Turn your notebook on, and immediately start pressing the F8 key, once or twice per second, until you see the Windows "start-up" menu (white text over a black background). Choose the "start in VGA (low-resolution") mode" (or some wording similar to that).
You computer will start-up in '800-by-600-by-256-colours' mode, which should work. Adjust the screen-resolution, and the number of colours to "optimal" values.
