I'm installing a garbage disposal. I've got everything done and I'm installing the switch. When I got the switch installed and tried to turn it on it tripped the breaker. When I bypass the switch it works fine. Originally I tried a 15 amp switch. Tried switching to a 20 amp switch (even though the disposal is only 6.5 amp), but have the same problem. Any ideas?

When you are wireing switch are you hooking black wire on incoming side of switch then out going black wire on leaving side,with white wire wire nutted together in switch box. If not try it that way and it should work. Hope this helps you.Thanks
Tried re-wiring the way you said. Still trips the breaker.
I Should have suggested that you try new switch as the first. one probably burnt out if you went black on one side and white on the other. Sorry I was not clearer on that. Thanks
