You should have posted the model of what you want this on, usually the reason is to add RAID so its faster.
You could use USB 3.0 ports for your drives and get the same speed you will get from Sata 2 using HDD.
Try just plugging it in, run windows update, then go to ADMIN tools, computer MGNT, storage, disk MGT, see if you can see the added storage, then just Look for the unpartitioned HDD usually represented by a black header right click it and select format. on the following instructions
