I'm truing to install a new hard drive with my Mac G4 OS 10.3 systems disks when my monitor tells me to check the signal cable. I've have took the color card out to clean the connection slot and still no picture. What are the signs of life that a mother board is working if I'm see these problems?

Well, first of all, you should reset the CMOS by unplugging the power cord from the computer, then take the battery out, which should be easy to spot. Put it back in after about 10 seconds and plug the power cord in as well.
Now, turn on the computer, and see if you might see any thing, other than a black screen or no signal message.
If you don't see anything, it's possible that the motherboard has been damaged.
If you see something, then goes back the no signal, then your motherboard might be working.
