Good start. You have probably eliminated 1/2 of the possible faults. It's probably a bad connection at the plug end of the wire. You could test it with an ohm meter if you had one and know what to do or you could just replace the plug on the other end of the wire. If you have never done that sort of thing, I would find someone that could do it for you since you are working with 115v and it can kill you if you do it wrong. Good start.
