Initialization Error when I turn on my D40 it comes up with an error message saying "initialization error: contact nikon authorized service representative" is there something I can do to solve the problem? i dont really want to have to send it away for repair. Thanks

Try pressing the 2 green buttons to reset the unit . if you get lucky and it turns on, immediately follow the steps to update your firmware on this website http://ampin.wordpress.com/2007/03/02/nikon-d40-firmware-upgrade/ , otherwise you will need to take the camera to an authorized repair center . :)
Neeeeeeeed help. same happened to me, i tryied pressing the 2 green buttons, the one on the left bottom corner and the one south of the shooting button to the left. but nothing happened. :( appreciate your feed back, by the way when i conected the camera to the computer i was able to download the pictures.
