Insalling a JVC audio deck into a 2001 volkswagen jetta

I got everything hooked up but the speakers still have no sound out of the doors, but my subs work

Was there sound before? Was it the factory stereo or same aftermarket? You may have missed the factory amplifier turn on wire in the harness.
