Insinkerator Disposal Badger 5 Plus 5 Leaking From Top
This unit has a few years on it and recently began leaking. The leak is coming from the location shown here:

I do see alot of posts about leaking from the bottom, but that isn't the case with this unit. The upper part with the name of the unit appears to be a decorative shroud of sorts, it moves around some and the leak is seeping from under it and running down. I've looked inside from the sink end and nothing appears unusual there.
It does not leak when I'm running water through it and not running the disposal, it only leaks when the disposal is running also.
I've also looked at where it mates with the sink and that does not appear to be the source, but I'm going to tighten it a bit and see what happens anyway.

I believe that schroud is a noise insulator, it is installed aroung the grinding chamber to minimize the grinding noise, the part below that is the motor.
Now for the leak, if it were me I would remove the disposer from the sink, really not a big deal and see if I could remove the sound insulator, I would presume then taht you would see signs of where the leak is eminating from.
Seeing that the disposer doesnt leak when it 's not running I think it can be repaired at home using a two part epoxy patching material used for marine pourposes.
It's worth a try, the worst thing that can happen is that you are out a little of your time.
