Intermittent not starting Vento motor scooter
I have a 3 year old Vento, 150cc, motor scooter with 1800 miles on it...It's run perfect until about a month ago when ''sometimes'' it would not start, hot or cold, and when not starting, there is no spark..I leave it for about 20 minutes and it starts and runs fine, until last week when a couple of times while on the road would break up badly...I live in Puerto Rico, so getting competent help for a repair is hard...Could it be the magnito (if it has one),points(again if it has them), the coil, or gdi?? The problem is intermittent...This is a Chinese motorscooter..Thanks for your help... Joe

You have what thay call a GY6 Motor it'sa honda knock off clone Chances are you eather need a CDI box Or Coil both prety cheep you have no points or condsider on this bike i have the same motor go to www.scootdawg.com form for for all the info you need including how to test them. one other thing check you valcume hoses and fule filter as well
I Have seen this befor First reveese the wires on the coil secend The spark plg wire could be bad I havd to replace the end of it conecting to the plug replace it with a spark plug end cap NGK makes them thay use them for a snow mobles thay sell them for five bucks at any good snowmobile/ motorcyce shop. www.shadetreepowersports.com sells them. One other possibalty I have seen is to pull the spark plug wire from the coil and cut off a half an inch in reinstall it i have put some rubber gasket sealer in the coil where the spark plug wire goes in to it.it has a habbit for comming loose.
Last Thing sing up for this web site/Forum you will find anything you will ever need for your GY6 motor http://scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi...

Same problem with my 2006, Vthunder, dies sometimes, other times it just won't start (no fire). I bought a new coil, no change, replaced plugs, refreshed the ends of the plug wires, not change. What I have found is that when "it" happens, if I reach in to the wiring jst under the back of the fuel tank and wiggle a few thing, It will probably start right up. I keep thinking I have found the connector that is the problem, but it just happens again. You can either take off the seat and get to those wires that are forward from the battrey holder, or you can pull the left side cover just below the gas tank and get your finger up in there. No too scientific, I know...I wanted to have this figured out for everyone before I posted anything, but I deal with this 4 or 5 times a week and it's frustrating...I thought others might like to know what I've found.
Good luck
