There is only one button to effect addition and that is the one marked with a plus [+] sign. It performs addition for all numbers, be they decimals , fractions. It can also be used to add lists or matrices. To force an entered fraction to remain a fraction (allbeit reduced to its simplest form) press [MATH][1:>Frac] before pressing the ENTER key. That is the hard way to do it. However, if you are willing to upgrade the calculator's OS to version 2.53 M(ath)P(rint) you will be able to handle fractions much more easily. You will also be able to calculate logarithms in any base.
The OS upgrade is available at education.ti.com. Here is the link to it. Use the TIConnect software to transfer it (batteries much be good). You can also transfer it from a calculator that has it. It is not to be used with the TI83PLUS.
