Its a Double French doors pull out freezer on bottom, model number GFSS6KKYSS..my brother has plugged it back in after defrosting all the ice and we can't hear the fan, apparently not working yet? Is this the right protocol? we are strapped for cash and need to figure this out. We can see that the rear coils are frosting up so something is happening
Refrigerators - GE - GFSS6KKYSS (259 cu ft) Bottom Freezer Commercial French Door...
On a regular fridge there is a timer located at the back of the fridge that activates the auto defrost on and off during a predetermined cycle. The timer provides power to an electrical heater (black cable) curled around the freezing elements, this action defrosts the cooler. This timer has an unusual rotating shaft on which a screw driver is used to rotate it and it is designed that rotation can only be in one direction. Look at the rear of your fridge and try to locate this timer, it is normaly mounted on the edge of a side panel near the coils. Once you have located it , use a screw driver that fits the groove of the rotating shaft and rotate it in the allowed direction (as you can only turn it in one direction) the fan should the run, if not, slowly continue rotation 360 degrees and until it does . IT IS POSSIBLE THE TIMER IS DEFECTIVE...REPLACE IT WITH IDENTICAL TYPE AND MODEL. This should be the cure to your problem. Good luck.
