I’ve fitted a teb7as and a split charge relay to my Kuga 2014, the instructions say for a common brake and tail light just wire in the red wire and tape up the brown and black. On 1st test this worked, but now I have brake lights but no tail lights. Where have I gone wrong?
I have fitted quite a few split charge relays; sometimes for an auxilliary battery on board a special vehicle and sometimes a caravan/trailer battery via a supplementary towing socket.
In all those occasions the vehicle lighting and the wiring for the split charge and caravan electrics were kept completely separate.
My second point is your car is fully computerised and it is very bad practice to interfere with the standard wiring in any way, except for the necessary teeing into the rear lights to obtain signals for the multiway relay that drives or should be driving the trailer lights.
I suggest you restore the wiring to original and if necessary fix the fault code you probably caused and then reread your literature and start over.
