I've seen this question before, but I can't find the answer. How do I get a Visioneer 8700 USB Scanner to work with Windows Vista? Visioneer lists this scanner as "End-of-Life" and does not list drivers for Windows beyond XP. Is there a another driver or 3rd party driver that will work?
I was reading the previous comments and was going to tell you to run the software installation in "Windows XP Compatability Mode" but it sounds like you already have tried will need to upgrade your version of windows before you can try it(basic windows versions do not have it or your computer hardware is not compatible with the feature). There are not going to be any aftermarket drivers available for this scanner due to it's age. Visioneer no longer provides any driver support for this scanner. The only option you have is to try and run the software/driver program in windows compatability mode but even then it still might not work properly. If you decide to upgrade your version of windows so you can try and use this feature be aware that there are certain hardware requirements needed for it to work. Verify that your computer has the hardware needed before you spend the money for the upgrade from microsoft.
The Visioneer 8700 does not have an available driver for Vista. Because this scanner could only be supported by Win XP SP1. This scanner will not even the Win XP SP2.
However, you may try this work around to make it work with your Vista computer:
1. Download the driver for Visioneer OneTouch 9420 Vista driver. Check the link below:
Just use the XP driver. Try running it in compatibility mode, by right clicking the software to get into the setup Properties, then go to the Compatibility tab. check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and below that select XP.
well that's not good, I thought it would work because it's virtual machine software. However there are other software out there like VMware Workstation, now I know that one does work. (it's not made by Microsoft, LoL)
Or you can do an upgrade install with the previous Visioneer and Paperport scanner applications
installed. The scanner was working using the paperport application.
Hopefully vista will release some driver upgrades, they have not though for the past 3 years for this device. You could also try another operating system, such as Ubuntu.well that's not good, I thought it would work because it's virtual machine software. Yes. There are no Drivers. But, few people were Successful in using the Drivers made for One Touch 9420 Vista Drivers. You could also try to Use the same XP Sp1 Driver for Vista.
In these Cases, the only option left would be Hit and Trial. Use the Drivers for Different Model. If you are lucky and the system finds the Compatibility, it's a HIT.
There are certain Web Sites which Sells the Driver. I never came across anyone who was Successful using that Site. I have heard the names, so i would not advise you to take a hit on your Money by paying 40-50 bucks for NO USE.

2. The computer will never ask you to connect the scanner, it will only complete the driver installation.
3. Then load the CD that came with your scanner and install the version four (4) driver.
4. Plug the scanner when ask by the computer.
5. Reboot the computer.
Hope this helps and have a great day!
