Just bought a 1964 vw beetle it has been sitting for almost 20 yrs changed plugs fuel pump engine turn over but cant get it to start not sure what else to do? coil and distributer work so maybe rebuild the carb?

Find tdc on number one piston by watching the valves-when intake valve closes and timing make comes around this should be tdc-next there should be a mark on the distributor for the rotor to point at the number one wire-if you have spark, compression, and fuel there should be some firing going on-do the plugs smell like gas -are they wet-cheers Denny
