It sounds like you didn't get the belt tight enough to handle the load of wet clothes. Suggest you use something to put more pressure on the belt while tightening the motor bolts. Although there is a recommended torque for the belt, most technicians don't measure when they replace a belt.

Humming noises are hard to diagnose because that could be anything from the motor (electrical) to start capactor/relay (electrical) to even a bad spot in a bearing. Since I can't be there to diagnose it, I would still guess the motor! or something binding.
