KDS Silver 17 inch monitor
I was not the person using the monitor when it failed by just going to black. I own the computer, it was used by another person when it failed. I'm a retired,
engineer,but know nothing about LCD monitors. When I first used it there was was a color test pattern when it was turned on.

Several of these monitors I have repaired from green light "blinking" and also no light / black screen.
In many cases I found bad filter Caps after the switching regulator. The ratings seem insufficient to handle the convection cooling. I replaced C215, C209, C223, and C211 which are 25V 105C 470uF which are the primary filter for the switching regulator output I used , and I replaced C219 as well. When I replaced them I actually used a better rated 950uf capacitor laid on its side for space, since the C215, and C209 are in parallel as well as C209 and C223. All of these capacitors in both monitors were domed on inspection.
Hi again,
- If the LCD is receiving power, then probable faults could be the main board that processes the video and controls, the CCF (cold cathode lamps and/or inverter. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional;
- If you are considering a DIY, the unit has to be opened up and the fault determined. In most cases, it is the inverter. This could actually be verified by running the LCD monitor and let the PC boot even if not visible. You could try shining a lflashlight at an angle on the display and see if there is a semblance of your desktop except that it would be very dark. If yes then it is possibly the CCF lamps or most likely the inverter.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Am not sure what happened but I lost you in the Chat/Live Session. For a while I saw you typing a message ... and then it would appear that for some reason, the session was ended.
With your indulgence, I would post the additional steps:
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
