Kenmore 106.56534400. I have click compressor will start. compressor will run for about 15 sec and shut off. Does this sound like relay, capacitor or bad compressor . Compressor is also very warm
The click you hear is the clixon (self resetting breaker) opening when it gets hot due to excessive current. Then when it cools it will turn the compressor back on but almost immediately it gets hot and shuts down the compressor again. And so on.
Meanwhile the compressor is very hot due to all of the excessive current going thru its windings. If you hook up an ammeter to unit you will be blown away when you compare the reading with what it is supposed to be under normal conditions.
The fact that the compressor starts tells you the start cap is good. And if you have a start relay in lieu you might want to take it out and shake it to see if makes any noise - if so it is no good. If the relay is broken and stuck on the start winding that could also cause your hassle because the start winding uses tons of juice and is designed only to get the motor started - then it is disconnected and the run winding takes over. Motor not designed to run on start winding!
