Kenmore dryer 110.68932792 wont start. It made a crunchy starter noise kind of like the electric starter on a car that won't turn over for a few days but it would turn on
And finally the last day it made the crunchy noise and didn't start and then when I pushed the button again, it was dead no noise no nothing. Opened the control panel and tested the push start switch for conductivity, and it registered fine. Not sure how much farther I can go with the AC on as required for further tests...

You may want to check and see if the belt that drives te drum came off or broke. if so replacing it is not to bad of a job to do. you can even google how to replace it, if thats the problem. cause it does sound like it was a mechanical problem
Sounds like the thermal fuse has blown. it's down at the bottom by the blower wheel assembly. The grinding noise that you are hearing could be something down inside the blower assembly sometimes screws coins Etc get caught down in there. if that's not the case check to see if the belt Has Broken because that will release the idler pulley and there's a safety switch on that that will not let the dryer run without the belt on
I forgot to mention that after the last push, I smelled burning electrical wires...
