It sounds like you might need a new keypad. Keypads can get damaged or worn out. They can also be replaced. I have never done it to my K1 but I have replaced a lot of Motorola V3 keypads. It is more affordable than buying a new phone but you will be without your cell phone while it is being repaired. Sorry, I forget that I have always repaired my own and so I don't know how much a shop would charge you to replace it.
