Kicker 12L5 blew from a kicker zx750.1
Had the sub hooked up in parallel to 2ohm which the zx amp is [email protected] the sub is rated at 600w rms and 1200w max. The sub was turned down half way and all the settings on the stereo was all the way down to break in the sub. two days later it locked completely extended and smoking like a train. what caused this?

MY BEST GUESS FROM WHAT YOU HAVE SAID IS THAT THE BOX WAS TO SMALL. BUT YOU ARE OVERPOWERING THE SUB RUNNING IT AT 2 OHMS ON A 750 WATT AMP WITH A SUB THAT IS ONLY RATED FOR 600. NO MATTER HOW FAR YOU TURN YOUR SETTINGS DOWN, YOUR STILL PUSHING TO MUCH POWER FOR THE SUB TO HANDLE. IT IS ONLY RATED 600 WATTS FOR A REASON. ESPECIALLY IF YOU LISTEN TO MUSIC THAT HAS A REAL LOW END AND THEN A HARD HIT. REMEMBER A HARD HIT WILL SPIKE YOUR AMPS OUTPUT THEREFORE PUSHING MORE WATTAGE TO THE SUB.

Blake Poynor From what i've always understood and correct me if i'm wrong but isn't over power better than under power? doesn't underpowering cause clipping? I can wire the L5 in series to 8ohm and then I believe my amp outputs 375, maybe less. Can you elaborate a little more on having a box too small? I didn't know it would screw up an amp. the box it's in is roughly 1.5 cubic ft. and last formula I knew for that is measure HxWxD and divide by 1728. It's been around 14 years since I've been in stereo's so i'm a little rusty.
What about kicker 1000 watts mono car amp class D sub amplifier DX1000.1- (2) ohms and a pioneer champion series pro TSW300D2 12" SUB elements 1-way RMS 1000 WATTS/ DUAL 2 VOICE COILS. how would you connect the speaker + to + or what?
