KLH player message "no disc" is happening
Hi -
I have a KLH dvd player, model KD-1220, and recently after I load the disc, it takes much longer to "load", and then shows a "no disc" sign !!
Why is this happening and what should I do ??
Thanks -
Katie

The lens can be cleaned using a lens cleaner like this: JVC Cldvdlau Dvd Lens Cleaner
If that does not work, then the unit must be taken apart, and the lens cleaned directly with isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds.
Hi katielevey, Try a few different disc's and see if it can read any of them. If not the next step would be to buy a cleaning disc from a local Radio Shack , Walmart or whatever you have local. If this dosn't work we can help you disassemble and clean it manually.. Lone99star

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
As antiochpc has initially proposed, clean the lens. This could be performed by using a cleaning disc. Should this be not corrective, then the top cover should be removed and the laser optics manually cleaned using cotton buds. it may also help spraying the mechanism with a can of compressed air to remove dirt and other debris.
Additionally, could be a mechanical problem. The carriage (where the laser optics ride) couldnot traverse its route. Most likely dried up lubricant on the sliderbar. This would be the small shafting thatguides the carriage of the laser pickup. Dirt, grime, dust andsolidified lubricant can cause stoppage of the carriage and the lasereye then fails to read the next track.
Check and perform preliminary visual or necessary inspection. Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
You can go to staples or a CD shop and get a DVD lens cleaner. It may not help as there are many disks that just wont play nice with certain equipment. I have DVD's that work fine in a few players, then wont work on others and it doesnt make alot of sence. Some of it has to do with Copyright protections and newer disks loading when the codec is not in the DVD player. I assume you tried multiple disks but cannot tell by your posting.

Sorry to say this but ALL and i mean ALL sony DVD players require a hardware upgrade to make them multi region
2nd .. are any of the disks, enhanced region coded?
this could be the problem... check the logo on the back of the player and the back of the disk to see if they match.. if they do... take the player back as it is faulty.. (pionear make a nice player but it to also needs a hardware upgrade to go multy region)
Welcome to Fixya! You can get the Lens Cleaner at Wal-Mart. It is a Disk with Tiny Brushes on it. Just put it in there and Play it. Really Easy!
By the Way, That is your Problem.
Have you tried cleaning the lens?
