If it sounds like a pumping noise but louder then it may mean that the pump is bone dry and needs to be primed. You need to find an imaginative way to force water into the socket that the tank engages with. A clear hose of the correct size with water already in it and then press the button and blow into the other end of the pipe. Once the valves are immersed in water it should start to function.
