Lacie Rugged external hard drive - new country, no connectivity
Click BEEP click BEEP click BEEP. This is the sound that my Lacie Rugged external hard drive makes when I plug it via USB 2.0 into a PC that is not my own. Any clue as to what is causing this? The computer does not show that an external device has been connected, and thus I cannot access the files on the drive. The only notable change in circumstances is that I am now in Croatia, whereas previously I was in the US; might differences in voltage (120v US vs 230v HR) and/or frequency (60hz US vs 50hz HR) be responsible for this? And, judging from other posts on this site, should I be concerned that my data has been inadvertently wiped out? What can I do? Thanks in advance!

The click comes from the reading head of the hdd, the beep comes from the pc when encounters an error. If the power source of the hdd hasn't been specifically designed to support both voltages, when you plugged it in for the first time it fried. It and all the data on it are gone.
Yes, the style="display:none;">Yes, the data can be saved. Open the case and remove the hard disk - if you're lucky all the damage is located on the case electronics and it will still work - and all you will have to do is to put it inside a pc to access all your data.
