Laptop broken, need to copy files from hard drive directly to another computer. I heard there was a cable that linked to USB (I think the HD is SATA?!?!) its a "hitachi traveller". Can I rescue my life?

You may need a 2.5 notebook hard drive Enclosure for sata.
then after you have that you can now connect that to a usb port then you should copy all the files that you have in the drive.
