Laptop is on but no screen and no response to any actions
The computer is on, the fan blows, the wireless indicator is lit, but it does nothing. It charges, however, it doesn't indicate its charging. Stepnote 1502 less than a year old. If I could get something on screen, it would help. Plugged into Different monitor but still nothing but black screen.

It does not sound like inverter has failed because you are using the correct method to switch screens, if the hard drive indicator is flashing/blinking that seems ok too.
latops are supposed to beep when there is hardware failure to give us engineers an idea of the problem, you haven't mentioned that, but i know there is hardware by the description.
start by taking the ram out, this could be faulty or disslodged and the machine sounds like boot but no display, clean the contacts on the ram with a pencil eraser (they work best) and dust off the rubber with a dry clean cloth, make sure there is no build up of dust there the ram slots, if you have more than 1 ram module try them one at a time.

motherboards are silent, its the other devices which are noisy, did you remove the memory and clean it like mentoned above?
remove the battery and try on AC power only, if still no joy remove hard drive, try again, if still no joy after that the problem would seem to much more serious
