Depends on the monitor, some monitors have a wired in cable with a multi pin connector fitted others have a mutipin socket in which case you will need a monitor connector cable. Industry standard is a 15 pin VGA connector cable which should be available from any computer supplies store. Connexion should be simple plug in at each end and often the act of plugging in the cable will cause the image to display on the monitor (providing it is already on standby) but if not pressing Fn and F5 should do the trick.
