LCD coating needs to be replace or LCD REPLACED
Furuno 582L lcd has become blurred and appears burned/foggy. The unit has been discontinued for years and Furuno wants $1000 for a replacement LCD however the working units value is only $450 at best. Removed the LCD and determined the LCD has a smoke color vinyl coating glued to the LCD screen which is the damaged item. Where/what could I use to replace this coating? Polarized window tint maybe??

Since you have little to loose you can attempt to remove the protective coating and not attempt to replace it with a substitute material. It's not required to operate but is intended to enhance viewing in certain light conditions. Might try a window cleaner with ammonia and a little "elbow grease". Remember though, your end result could be worse than what you have now if you're unable to completely remove the film or damage the JCD panel in the process.
