Hi All I have just had this problem. Note that the DVD reader/writer has packed up and the system will not boot any futher. Replace the DVD/reader/writer and your problem will be resolved
Hi, our LG RH397D did the same thing, now it displays the HELLO message for 2 seconds and turns itself off. Only stays on if you hold down the power button but still does not progress past HELLO message, also makes a repetitive clunking noise until powered off. I have the same model dvd recorder I got used with the same problem. The hello light would flash when turned on but would go back to the dimmed time. After removing the cover I discovered a capacitor on the power supply board was bad. The capacitor is C123 a 1000 microfarad 25 volt capacitor but look at all the capacitors if they are bad they can swell and split on the top. Removing the power supply board and desoldering the capacitor and installing a new capacitor is not that difficult if you have some soldering experience and some knowledge of electronics. The capacitor is a relatively cheap part only a $1 for me. There are many tutorial videos on youtube on soldering and desoldering. There are videos on how to look for bad capacitors too. I hope this helps it did for me
