Low volume on playback
I have a Sansui DVD-RW recorder. I recorded something from the TV and turned the volume down soon after it started. When I played it back I couldn't get the volume to increase. I thought volume was set automatically at a reasonable pitch when recording and that altering it during recording would not actually affect the playback. Am I wrong here?

The volume control on the TV does not affect the recording. However, if you were recording from a set top box, and you turned the volume down on the box and not the TV, then this would cause the problem you describe.
If this is the case, then try to keep the STB volume at maximum and only use the TV volume control.
Also, some DVD players and VCRs have a lower output than the standard TV tuner, so an increase in volume is usually needed.
You might want to try some test recordings to see what happens.
