When troubleshooting mics and speakers it's good practice to have easy access to both so make sure you have the speaker icon located on the taskbar, down by the clock. If its not there - right click on a blank section of the taskbar and select > "Properties" Select > "Customize" Under Icons look for "Volume" Using the drop-box alongside the volume icon select > "Show Icon and notifications" Click >"OK" "Apply" and "OK" You should now have exited "properties" and have the icon on your taskbar. If your mic is muted you will see a red circle with a diagonal slash inside next to the speaker icon. To unmute, left click the speaker icon on the taskbar and left click on the speaker icon at the bottom of the volume slider. While here adjust the volume on the slider to about 75% Now test your mic Click "Start" > "All Programs" > "Accessories" >"Sound Recorder" The sound recorder will now be on your desktop. Select "Start recording"" and count to 10. the volume graph should be visible as it picks up your voice.Click "Stop recording" and you will be presented with the options where to place the recording.name it Mic test Select "Desktop" and "Save" Go to your desktop and double-click on the file If all is well Windows Media Player will open and play the recording.If the mic fails this test you will have to start looking at drivers etc. Once it works here you can configure it to Skype Open Skype On the top toolbar Click >"Tools" > "Options" > "Audio Settings" Make sure the drop-box alongside the mic is showing the correct mic as default. Set the box to "automatically adjust microphone settings" The volume slider will show green when you speak Click "Save"
