MAINT REQD light won't reset
I've followed the procedure to reset the light many times with no success. After each attempt what does show on the display is " 5 on" ! can you tell me what that means.......i'm sure the car is trying to tell me something.
Thank you

The manual is wrong you need to have it on the TRIP meter A instead of ODO.
I am a Scion Service Manager. Really.
Here is how you do it:
Turn the key to the ON position (do not start it)
Observe the odometer display (it MUST be set to "ODO"),
and observe the mileage...
(Note that some Toyota & Scion cars utilize the "Trip A" setting)
Press in and HOLD the trip reset stick; do not release it.
Turn the key on.
Observe the odometer display. You will see 5 dashes, then 4, 3, 2, and then 1, followed by 5 zeros, and then, whatever mileage you observed when you started will return.
Release the button. The indicator is norw reset.
What this does: It adds 5K miles to the odometer counter.
1. Turn the key on, don't start the car
2. Change Trip from A or B to ODO
3. Press and hold ODO stick in and then
4. Turn Ignition Key to OFF and then back ON
5. Then you should see the dashses counting down
To answer the other question... the 5 -on is really S -on and the S = sweep. When start the xD it does a gauge sweep to calibrate the needles. When you get to that menu and you see S -on release the button and press it again to S -off, press it a 3rd time and it 'on' again. If you set it to 'off ' & then turn the key off and then start the car you see that you needles don't sweep the gauge. Set back to 'on' to have them sweep, set to off it won't.
