Due to the differences in the way DVD +r and DVD -r work, I have found the first thing to fail as a laser ages is DVD +r. I have not discovered why as they both burn discs, similar way. It may have to do with the different chemical composition of the disc or the burn alignment method used (every disc is gauged for its 'best' burn setting by the drive)
