Maxtor one touch 2 300gig wont switch on
This has happened to 3 drives now. I plug the power supply into the unit, switch the unit on but it wont power up. The green light on the power supply flashes very dimply when I switch the unit on. I think this might be to do with a component in the HD rather than the disc itself.
This is the same problem with all three drives. It must be a known Maxtor issue.
Can it be repaired rather than need data retrieval?

Yes, this is a known Maxtor issue. They draw a lot of current, hence the 2 usb connectors. Devices that pull a lot of current need good connections.
Yes, the electronics inside the drive can go bad and they can be sent in for repair. Before doing that, though, try the following:
Make sure that the drive is plugged into usb ports that connect _directly_ to the motherboard (the ones one the back of the computer). Also, try to use usb 2.x ports instead of usb1.x
Try plugging the drive into another computer.
