Maytag MAH6500 got a few inches of water due to flooding and now washer seems to start until it comes to the spin cycle. it will then stop with a lr error this is only 2 years old so idon't think it had the problems of the earlier models. the washer worked fine earlier in the day. I'm told that the motor control board probably got wet and needs replacement?

The LR code means "Locked Rotor". when this happens the cause is one of two items. 1) the circuit board at the top of the unit has lost connection to the motor and its control board at the bottom (connector loose) or 2) the motor and or control board at the bottom have trashed and need to be replaced (P/N 12002039).

Yes there is a control board at the back of the machine if it got wet it will be damaged and eventually the machine not might work at all its easier to call a repair man instead of all the trouble doing it your self and it is int costly at all
