Mercury mistake so i have a 1998 mercury mystique (Auto) and there is a list of problems with it. the check engine light is on but a mechanic told me it was most likely a sensor. The transmission has also been acting strange lately it becomes hard to change from park to any gears. i noticed while it was running in the garage the exhaust was leaking out of two places. and sometimes when i rev the engine at about 3 or 4 rpms it will start shaking when it comes back down? does anyone know anything about these problems? thanks
Exhaust leaks can throw off the oxygen sensors, which affect engine fuel and timing. Moving out of park could be a problem with the shift linkage. Start by checking your transmission fluid level and color. Get the codes read and start fixing whatever is causing the check engine. Most states car inspections will fail a car with the check engine light on so you need to cleanup the problems before your next inspection.
