Mic feedback. I sing on a shure beta 58 mic, into a 350 watt peavey amp, into 2 - 200 watt peavey speakers. My band is loud, and I simply cannot get my mic loud enough for them to hear me, without constant feedback, and an incredibly reverb sound at least. I tried a friend's audix om5 mic and my problems were gone. My shure mic is (supposedly) better quality. How can I set my peavey amp (or what can I do) to make my shure mic perform better? I do not want to have to purchase another mic! Help please

It sounds as though you are pointing the peavey at the band in a practice situation? If so make sure that each speaker is at about 60 degree angle to either side of the back of the mike (you facing the speakers), most mics reject feedback when the the user is directly in front of a monitor, but Beta 58s' tend to feedback more in that situation. Alternatively (if it is a practice room situation), why not place the speakers behind the band at 60 degrees each and turn to face the band.
I had the same problem with my band, and had the sure 58, and it went through a kustom pa. first try getting them (speakers) off the floor if they are monitors, put them on stands. then watch the master volume compared to the master volume on the channel of the mic you are using. first set the main master volume then turn up the volume on the mic channel just before it starts to feedback. also check the peavey amp to see if it has an xlr button (basically supplies a better signal). if the feedback continues turn down the high start at 5 (then go down from there), tweek up the mids 4-5, and the lows about 4.
