You can check the mic by going to control panel>sound and audio devices>voice tab > test hardware
this will show you the input as well as output signal you can test your mic if the input signal is coming when you speak means your mic is working properly if not check the mic once is that in good condition or not ...
if needed replace the mic ..

its umer i have a dell d600 latitiude. i am using windows xp the way you told me mic is working and the speakers are working as well. but i am not getting voice in skype and yahoo and i am not able to unmute the microphone from volume control on taskbar, i think it is a virus problem, i have installed a fresh windows and i am using a kyspersky antivirus.please give me a solution, i would be very thankful to you.
