mixer, and control panel all go at once? I don't know how to troubleshoot this---or where to start. This has happened the last two times I attempted to make a basic bread recipe---and when the bread should be finished I opened it up and it was a blob of dough sitting on one side of the pan. I haven't tried anything to fix it. I don't know what to do

Most bread machine paddles fit kind of loose so you can get them off for cleaning. Try turning on your machine like you were going to bake a loaf but don't put any ingredients in. Just watch, you won't hurt anything doing this, you are just trying to see if your paddles are turning or not. If they are turning then your problem is something other than the paddles.
