Modem usb connection
I have a new hp desktop running vista, which connects fine to the net when using the ethernet cable from the modem. I would however prefer to run the ethernet cable to a router, and when I try to use the usb cable connection to the computer it will not connect to the net.Even after running the full installation wizard it says unable to connect...check connections etc. Again it is fine using the ethernet connection.

You can only use the USB connection or the ethernet connection to get it work. It won't work on both.
What type of router are you using?
