Depends on your operating system - this player only works with Windows 98 (with a driver only), Windows 2000 SP3 and Windows XP. Try another USB port on your computer if your OS is a compatible type. The procedure I would generally follow is to install the CD with the device NOT plugged into the computer, and only after it is installed, plug the mp3 player into the computer.
If all of the above conditions have been met. Unplug the mp3 player, turn it off, hold in the play button, and reconnect it to the computer. Keep holding the play button. Should go into recovery mode.
