My 1991 240sx is at my local mechanics shop. He is getting abnormal transmission pressure readings and has not been able to diagnose the problem or has not tried hard enough. The care does not shift into second until it reaches almost 5000 rpms and the shift is hard. It also revs high when it first starts

The 240sx auto transmission will not shift from 1st to 2nd until going about 25 mph with gentle throttle (35mph with full throttle). I do not recall what engine RPM this corresponds to, but i know it always seemed high.
As for the hard shift two second, there is rectangular module that is inside the driver side fender next to the ignition coil that is sometimes unplugged to get a more "sporty" feel out of the automatic transmission. Check that plug and if it is unplugged, plug it back in.
