My 1999 bmw z3 will crank but will not start , code A9 & 44 shows up , air pump keeps running when ignition is on & drains the battery out.engine light & EML light comes on

Not sure on this one.....if it's "drive by wire" that means the accelerator pedal is connected to the intake electronically, and that may be where the A9 code comes from. Saturns are drive by wire and it's a common failure point for them. spark, compression and gas is all you need for the engine to run. you can put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail to determine fuel, assume that the compression is good, and pull a spark plug and ground it while cranking to see if gets a spark...
