My 2 year old humidifier is smoking and sparking at the fan unit. This humidifier has probably only been used a total of 5 months since purchased. I am attempting to contact Crane but have a feeling I will get no help since its past 1 year warranty period. Any suggestions?

You definitely have a problem. One that could be costly, if you continue to use it. Whether it is still under warranty of not, you need to contact their Technical Service Dept, as they will be able to help you diagnose and repair the problem if possible.
