My 2001 silverado 4wd 5.3, hums noticeably in the cab when accelerating around 30mph + I do have a leak rear t-seal and both front t axles and have filled the front thinking that was the problem however nope still humming as if out of balance i guess the truck has 280,000 miles lol
When you say humming as if out of balance you may have ansqwered your own question. Tail shaft vibration comes in aroun 30 mph and the points I would look for are loose uni joints or a lost balance weight from the tail shaft. To check uni joints look for rust streaks from cross. The next step is to grab firmly either side of the joint and see if there is any movement while twisting you hands in opposite directions. next lift one half of the cross and check for movement in the bearings repeat this at all uni joints check the tail shaft slip joint by trying to twist each half and check for up and down movement at this spline. front shafts fail more readily than rear ones
I have got under the front end and grabbed the driver side axle near the front differential and i could lift it some. also the humming almost goes away after I let of the gas weird! there also is clicking sorta when i lifted the front up and spun the tire and could hear clicking from differential. If it is the front diff can I take the front axles out and drive it cause my truck looks to have very costly diff;s and transfers lol heavy duty compared to friends dodge 1500I have got under the front end and grabbed the driver side axle near the front differential and i could lift it some. also the humming almost goes away after I let of the gas weird! there also is clicking sorta when i lifted the front up and spun the tire and could hear clicking from differential. From your comments it appears that you have an independant front end. When you spin the tyre and there is a clicking sound this indicates that a cv joint is faulty. Normally this can be heard when turning a corner and going slow then the joint clicks as it moves in and out of the worn section. IF you have a left and right axle with the diff mounted to the chassis you have more than likely found the fault Have the axle checked by a mechanic for confirmation Replacement of the shaft will take around 2 hrs or less if a mechanic knows what he is aboutFrom your comments it appears that you have an independant front end.
